Connecting your systems
Can my AI work with The Edge jewelry POS?
Whether your AI can work with The Edge jewelry POS, which assistants we have tested, what you can ask, and how to connect it. Read-only, as we run it today.
Short answer
Yes. Claude and ChatGPT can work with The Edge jewelry POS through a connector that SkyNexus runs. As we run it, the assistant reads a nightly, read-only copy of the store’s Edge data. It does not connect to or change the live POS. We verified Claude running in production on August 27, 2026, and ChatGPT runs against the same connector. SkyNexus has not tested or set up Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini with The Edge. Answers reflect the last backup that loaded, usually the previous close of business. As of October 2026, we found no connector from The Edge’s vendor that lets a general AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, query a store’s Edge data.
Which AI assistants work with The Edge jewelry POS today?
Section titled “Which AI assistants work with The Edge jewelry POS today?”| Assistant | Status through SkyNexus |
|---|---|
| Claude | Working. Running in production. Each person adds one connector in Claude and signs in. |
| Claude mobile app | Not confirmed by SkyNexus yet. |
| ChatGPT | Working. Running in production through ChatGPT’s custom connector feature. Your ChatGPT plan must allow custom connectors. |
| Microsoft Copilot | Not tested or set up by SkyNexus. |
| Google Gemini | Not tested or set up by SkyNexus. |
What can I ask Claude about my Edge data?
Section titled “What can I ask Claude about my Edge data?”Questions like these work today on the store we run:
- “How did we do yesterday?”
- “Show the scoreboard for this month.”
- “Show me inventory by week for the last 13 weeks, jewelry versus watches.”
- “Who has a birthday or anniversary this week?”
- “Which of our top customers have gone quiet?”
- “Which vendors have the most aged inventory, and what’s our GMROI by category?”
These are proven on real store data. What works for your store depends on what we connect during setup.
How does The Edge data reach Claude?
Section titled “How does The Edge data reach Claude?”In the deployment we run, the store’s Edge server uploads a nightly backup to storage we provide. We restore that backup into a copy we operate and load it each night, and your AI assistant reads that copy. Nothing connects to the live Edge machine, and the AI never reaches it. If the backup stops uploading, answers go stale until it starts again. Ask Claude for the data cutoff on any answer. If it cannot give you one you trust, stop and check with us.
Who this is for
Section titled “Who this is for”Independent jewelers running The Edge who already pay for Claude and want to ask questions across the store without exporting spreadsheets by hand. You should be comfortable with answers that are current as of the last export.
What you need first
Section titled “What you need first”- An active The Edge installation in your store.
- Confirmation from your Edge administrator of the supported data path, the fields in scope, and any permissions or licensing the connection requires.
- A Claude account for each person who will ask questions.
- An owner or manager who can approve a read-only connection.
How do I connect The Edge to Claude?
Section titled “How do I connect The Edge to Claude?”This is a real setup-and-verify procedure. Follow it, and check the answer yourself before you rely on it.
- You approve the access. SkyNexus requests read-only access to the agreed Edge dataset. You approve it with your own identity, which authenticates you to the connection. Your credentials stay out of public examples.
- SkyNexus supplies the gateway. We run the read-only bridge: a scheduled export of the agreed dataset lands in a hosted copy we operate, and Claude reads that copy through an MCP gateway. The export is arranged up front, before any question, and the AI never reaches the live Edge machine.
- Add the connector in Claude. Using the endpoint and instructions SkyNexus supplies, add the custom connector in Claude, authenticate with your provisioned access, and confirm the tools you expect are present. Then start a test conversation. Claude’s own steps are here: support.claude.com/en/articles/11176164.
- Run one bounded question, and specify it fully. Ask a closed-period figure, and state exactly what you mean: the period and its date semantics, the metric definition (gross or net), how returns and tax are treated, the filters, and the timezone. Ask Claude which export it read and its data cutoff. If it cannot give you a cutoff you trust, treat that as a stop and check with us. An illustrative answer (fictional, for shape only): “Gross sales, September 1 to 7, 2025, all departments, before returns and tax, US Eastern time: $18,432, from the export with a data cutoff of 2025-09-07 23:59 ET, loaded 2025-09-08 07:14 ET.” Every figure there is invented to show the shape; it is not a real store’s number.
- Reconcile against the Edge report, and investigate any gap. Run the same period in The Edge and compare. A closed period does not by itself guarantee a correct answer: gross versus net, returns, tax, date semantics, filters, missing rows, and later corrections can all move a figure. If the numbers do not match, investigate the difference before you rely on the answer. The data cutoff may explain it, or it may not.
- When something is off. An authentication failure is not the same as a tool your role does not have. If Claude asks you to reconnect, follow the supplied sign-in steps and retry. If authentication still fails, contact SkyNexus. If an expected tool is missing, ask us to check your provisioned role and the available tools. If a question needs a tool the connection does not provide, it should say so rather than invent one. To stop future calls, remove the connector from your Claude: that ends new requests through that connector. It does not delete data already retrieved, stop the scheduled export, or revoke other people’s connectors, and immediate revocation holds only where we have tested it.
What it can and cannot do
Section titled “What it can and cannot do”It can
- Answer questions from your Edge data in plain language, as of the last export.
- Let you check freshness yourself: ask for the data cutoff and confirm the export covers your period before you rely on a figure.
- Give you a figure you can reconcile against the equivalent Edge report.
It cannot (as we run it today)
- Write to or change records in The Edge. The connection we run is read-only; write-back is a separate, deliberate setup you choose, through The Edge's data-transfer connection.
- Reach data outside what you connected.
- Answer from data that was never exported.
Can Claude change records in The Edge?
Section titled “Can Claude change records in The Edge?”Not as we run it today. The connection we operate is read-only: it reads a hosted copy of a scheduled one-way export, and nothing writes back to The Edge on its own. The Edge can be set up to write back, deliberately, through its data-transfer connection, if you want it, and we have verified that path. That is a choice you make, never one the AI makes in the moment. See the verified integration record for The Edge and Claude.
Is the Edge data live, or from the last export?
Section titled “Is the Edge data live, or from the last export?”The data is current as of the last successfully loaded export, not the live state of the store. Three moments are worth separating: the data cutoff (the last event the export includes), the export’s load completion (when the hosted copy finished updating), and our last verification date. Ask Claude for the data cutoff on any answer. Whether a given question is safe to rely on depends on whether the export covers the period you are asking about and whether you have reconciled it against The Edge, not on the age of the export alone. See is yesterday’s export fresh enough for this question?
Can I connect The Edge jewelry POS to ChatGPT?
Section titled “Can I connect The Edge jewelry POS to ChatGPT?”Yes. The gateway is built on MCP, an open standard, and ChatGPT runs against it through ChatGPT’s custom connector feature. Your ChatGPT plan must allow custom connectors. The setup steps on this page are written for Claude; for ChatGPT, we supply the connector details during setup. If you later change assistants, the gateway and the hosted copy stay in place: see switching AI assistants without rebuilding the connection.
How we know
Section titled “How we know”EvidenceVerified production store
The Edge and Claude pairing runs in production, and we last verified it running on August 27, 2026. Freshness reflects the last completed export, not a live feed. Read the dated, source-linked detail in the verified integration record for The Edge and Claude.
