Connecting your systems
Can Claude work with Podium?
A simple, owner-level walkthrough for businesses that run reviews and customer messaging on Podium: what Claude can help with, how the connection works, and how to keep it read-only until you decide otherwise.
Short answer
Yes. Podium, the cloud reviews and messaging platform, publishes an API, so Claude connects to it directly, with no export to schedule. We put that connection behind a secure gateway, with read-only access and per-person permissions. You ask which reviews need a reply and which customer conversations are waiting, and Claude answers from your Podium account. Read-only as we run it today: Claude does not send a message or post a reply unless you deliberately turn that on.
Who this is for
Section titled “Who this is for”An owner who runs reviews, texts, and customer conversations through Podium, and wants a faster read on what needs attention without clicking through every thread.
What you need first
Section titled “What you need first”- A Podium account for your store, with an owner who can authorize access.
- Confirmation of which Podium data and permissions the connection should cover.
- A Claude account for each person who will ask questions.
- The access you want each role to have, decided up front.
How to connect, and how to check it works
Section titled “How to connect, and how to check it works”This is a real setup-and-verify procedure. Follow it, and check the answer yourself before you rely on it.
- You authorize the access. Podium uses its own authorization to grant access to your account. You authorize it with your own identity, and your credentials stay out of public examples.
- SkyNexus sets up the connection. We build a connector against Podium’s API and put it behind a secure MCP gateway, with read-only access and per-person permissions. Because Podium is in the cloud, there is no export and no separate copy.
- Add the connector in Claude. Using the endpoint and instructions SkyNexus supplies, add the custom connector in Claude, authenticate with your provisioned access, and confirm the tools you expect are present. Then start a test conversation.
- Run one bounded question. Ask something concrete, for example which reviews from the last week still have no response, or which customer messages are unanswered. State the window and the filters you mean, so the answer covers what you intend.
- Check it against Podium. Open Podium and confirm the reviews or conversations the answer named are really the ones outstanding. A quick check keeps you from acting on a stale or mis-scoped list.
- When something is off. An authentication failure is not the same as a tool your role does not have. If Claude asks you to reconnect, follow the supplied sign-in steps and retry. If authentication still fails, contact SkyNexus. If an expected tool is missing, ask us to check your provisioned role and the available tools. To stop future calls, remove the connector from your Claude: that ends new requests through that connector. It does not delete data already retrieved or revoke other people’s connectors, and immediate revocation holds only where we have tested it.
What it can and cannot do
Section titled “What it can and cannot do”It can
- Answer in the moment across reviews and conversations, as far as your Podium permissions allow.
- Point you to the reviews and messages that need attention, so you spend the time replying.
- Run from the Claude a person already uses, by adding one connector.
It cannot (as we run it today)
- Send a message, post a reply, or answer a review. Sending is a write, and any write is a separate, deliberate setup you turn on.
- See what Podium's API does not expose, or what a person's permissions exclude.
- Reach anything outside Podium. This connection is to Podium, and only Podium.
Can it send messages or reply to reviews?
Section titled “Can it send messages or reply to reviews?”Not as we run it today. The connection we operate is read-only: it can tell you what needs a response, but sending a message or posting a review reply is a write. Any write is a separate, deliberate setup you turn on, never something the AI does on its own or that a reworded question unlocks.
How current are the answers?
Section titled “How current are the answers?”Podium is a live cloud system, so the connection reads it in the moment rather than from a nightly copy. An answer can reflect a message that arrived today. It is still bounded by what Podium’s API exposes and by a person’s permissions, and a quick check against Podium keeps you from acting on a mis-scoped list.
Can I connect Podium to ChatGPT?
Section titled “Can I connect Podium to ChatGPT?”The gateway is built on MCP, an open protocol that ChatGPT also supports, so MCP is a potential path to the same gateway. Whether a given ChatGPT account can add the connector, authenticate, and see the expected tools still has to be validated; protocol support alone is not a working pairing. If you later change assistants, the connection setup stays in place: see switching AI assistants without rebuilding the connection.
How we know
Section titled “How we know”EvidenceSupported capability under gate
This is the connection we build for Podium, offered as a supported capability rather than a named-store deployment. The pattern behind it, a secure gateway with read-only access and per-person permissions, runs in production on The Edge, which we last verified running on August 27, 2026. Podium exposes reviews and conversations through its public API, and we connect it the same way, through the API rather than an export.
