Can Claude answer questions from Clover?

A simple, owner-level walkthrough for businesses that run on Clover: what Claude can answer, how the live connection works, and how to keep it read-only by the access you grant.

Short answer

Yes. Clover is a cloud point-of-sale and payments system with a public REST API, so Claude reads your account directly and in real time, with no export to schedule. We put that connection behind a secure gateway, using read access you grant. You ask about orders, inventory, customers, and payments, and Claude answers from your live account. Read-only by grant: nothing writes back unless you deliberately grant write access.

An owner who runs the business on Clover, already pays for Claude, and wants to ask plain questions about sales, stock, customers, and payments without building reports.

  • A Clover account, with an owner who can authorize access.
  • The read access you want the connection to have, decided up front.
  • A Claude account for each person who will ask questions.

This is a real setup-and-verify procedure. Follow it, and check the answer yourself before you rely on it.

  1. You authorize the access. Clover uses OAuth to grant access to your account. You authorize it with your own identity, and your credentials stay out of public examples.
  2. SkyNexus sets up the connection. We build a connector against Clover’s REST API and put it behind a secure MCP gateway, with read access and per-person permissions. Because Clover is in the cloud, there is no export and no separate copy.
  3. Add the connector in Claude. Using the endpoint and instructions SkyNexus supplies, add the custom connector in Claude, authenticate with your provisioned access, and confirm the tools you expect are present. Then start a test conversation.
  4. Run one bounded question, and specify it fully. Ask a closed-period figure, and state exactly what you mean: the period and its date semantics, the metric definition, how returns and tax are treated, the filters, and the timezone. Because Clover is live, the answer reflects the account as it is now.
  5. Reconcile against Clover, and investigate any gap. Run the same period in Clover’s own reporting and compare. Returns, tax, date semantics, and filters can all move a figure, so if the numbers do not match, investigate before you rely on the answer.
  6. When something is off. An authentication failure is not the same as a scope your access does not grant. If Claude asks you to reconnect, follow the supplied sign-in steps and retry; if it still fails, contact SkyNexus. If an expected field is missing, check that your access grants the read scope for it. To stop future calls, revoke the connection in your Clover account: that ends new reads through it.

It can

  • Answer in real time about orders, inventory, customers, and payments, as far as your access grants.
  • Let you check a figure yourself: reconcile it against your own Clover reports.
  • Run from the Claude a person already uses, by adding one connector.

It cannot (by the access you grant)

  • Write to or change your account. The access we ask for is read only; a write would need write access you deliberately grant.
  • Reach data outside the read access you granted.
  • Reach anything outside Clover. This connection is to your account, and only your account.

Not with the access we ask for. We request read access, so the connection reads your account and does not write to it. Clover access can also carry write scopes, but that is a separate grant you would make deliberately, never something the connection takes on its own.

Real time. Clover is read live through its REST API, so an answer reflects the account as it is at the moment you ask, not a copy from earlier. A figure is still only as sound as the query behind it, so specify the period, filters, and timezone, and reconcile against your Clover reports before relying on it.

The gateway is built on MCP, an open protocol that ChatGPT also supports, so MCP is a potential path to the same gateway. Whether a given ChatGPT account can add the connector, authenticate, and see the expected tools still has to be validated; protocol support alone is not a working pairing. If you later change assistants, the connection setup stays in place: see switching AI assistants without rebuilding the connection.

EvidenceSupported capability under gate

Clover publishes a public REST API that an account owner can open with read access, so this is a self-serve connection, not a vendor arrangement we have to wait for. We connect it the same gateway way we run in production on The Edge, read-only and per-person, which we last verified running on August 27, 2026. What a person can reach depends on the read access granted and on Clover’s own API.
